11th Annual Friends of Hammonasset Plant and Shrub Plant Sale One Of Most Successful Ever
Raises Funds to Support the Park; Thousands of Plants Sold, Other Town Organizations Helped
By Donald Rankin
The Friends of Hammonasset concluded its Annual Plant and Shrub Plant Sale earlier this month and it was one of the most successful ever.
The month- long sale raised funds that are earmarked to support the expansion of the Meigs Point Nature Center and other projects for Hammonasset Beach State Park.
The plants were supplied by David Richard of the Clinton Nursery.
The Friends sold about 5,000 shrubs, 900 hanging baskets and hundreds of flats, 4" annuals and perennials. The sale is staffed solely by volunteers and 100 percent of the profits go to support the park.
In addition, other town organizations have benefitted from donated shrubs and plants from the sale.
They include: Greater New Haven Habitat for Humanity, Roses for Autism, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Westbrook, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Madison, Lutheran Church, Madison, Congregational Church, Madison, A Place Called Hope(Wildlife Rescue and Preservation), multiple Scout Troops, Madison Little League, Ryerson School Beautification Project, Operation Music Aid, Juvenile Diabetes Association, Camp Hazen YMCA, Madison ABC.
